Indian Higher education is really accelerating towards global standards of Education. Number of States have already adopted the Pvt. University Policy and by now more than 300 Pvt. Universities are set up by the Education societies in our country.
Over the years Indian Universities have realized the importance of keeping the aspect of globalization and industry centered approach in its teaching and its maneuver to meet up with the contemporary demands of the education plethora. To work on such parameters these private Universities are collaborating with foreign Universities and Industries to make Indian Higher Education more relevant and prepare our students to become competent leaders of tomorrow. I strongly feel that this process is mind bogglingly moving at a much faster pace and will surely help raising the standard of education in our country.
Being in Education for more than 3 decades or so, I would like to highlight some of these upright transformations in our education system.
1). Universities are trying to set up Business Incubation Innovation Centre’s in their premises to boost the INNOVATION led ENTREPRENEURSHIP in our young generation which will surely upsurge our Indian economy.
2). As an educationist, I firmly believe that Indian education is going through a revolution. Unlike before, Universities are now trying to design the courses and curriculum keeping in mind the needs of today’s generation and the demands of the global India. This Urge is leading to the invention of some unique courses by these Private Universities like Business Leadership programme as this is the real need of the Industries today. The companies are hunting for the leaders at different level who can drive the organizations to the upper level. Such types of programs are missing in Indian Management studies. We as on today only give basic knowledge of management subjects. The need is to supplement it with industrial exposure and experience.
3) Looking at the Aviation Industry we can see that a tremendous growth in this field in south East Asia. But in our country this field is still growing at the sluggish pace. We should focus on offering courses like Aviation Management / Airport Design and Management, as the Government agencies project that around 500 brownfield and Greenfield airports would be required by 2020. The private sector is being encouraged to become actively involved in the construction of airports through different Public Private Partnership models, with substantial state support in terms of financing, concessional land allotment, tax holidays and other incentives.
4) Universities are taking great initiatives to promote the culture of research based curriculum. Academies foster industry oriented approach to help students get on field expertise of what they learn. Here I feel that Indian Universities should partner with American and European Universities to learn from them “how to blend research in Education system and make Indian Education best fit at global scenario”
To conclude many more such changes have been observed in the scenario of Higher Education which clearly show that Indian education transformers are Re-thinking the why of our shortfalls, Re-vising: the standards to meet the global scenario, Re-innovating: to flourish and make India a global Hub for education and economy and Re- strategizing: to overcome our short comings.
